This beautiful mosque in Dhaka, Bangladesh is a classical example of a faultless Mughal architecture. Dhaka is known as city of Mosques and this mosque, though not very large, is one of its most admired mosque. Its 5 domes are decorated all over with hundreds of shinning blue stars set in white marble. From distance the glittering stars give an impression of a starry sky.
The walls of the mosque, both inside and outside are equally impressive and are decorated with exquisite mosaic containing small pieces of Chinaware. This type of mosaic is called 'Chini Tikri' (ceramic/china pieces) work.
The mosque known as Tara (star) Masjid (mosque) was built in early 18th century and originally had 3 domes. Later on 2 more domes and a verandah were added as a part of its renovation/expansion. The mosque now measures 21.34m in width and 7.98m depth.
