Sleeping Under the Northern Lights in Glass Igloo

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, are a natural light display that occurs in the polar regions. They are caused by charged particles from the sun colliding with particles in the Earth's atmosphere. When these particles collide, they create energy that is released as light, creating a spectacular display of colours in the sky. The colours can range from green, pink, purple, and blue, and the lights appear to dance across the sky.

The Northern Lights are present all year round, but they are typically, only visible during the winter months in the polar regions. This is because the polar regions experience long periods of darkness during the winter, which provides the ideal conditions to see the lights.

While experiencing the Northern Lights typically requires braving the cold outdoors, a tourist resort (Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort) in Sodankylä, Lapland, Finland, has come up with a unique solution. The resort features glass igloos that allow guests to witness the stunning light display from the warmth and comfort of their own rooms. Located approximately 250 kilometres (150 miles) north of the Arctic Circle, this region is one of the best places in the world for experiencing the Northern Lights.
