A children's daycare centre in Wolfartsweier, Karlsruhe, Germany, is designed to resemble a large white cat sitting in a Sphinx-like pose. It even has large whiskers. Aptly named "Die Katze" (The Cat), it was designed by architect Ayla Yöndel based on an idea and concept by Tomi Ungerer. Built in 2002, its unique design sparks the imagination of children who come to the daycare. Upon entering the building through the cat's mouth, children feel that they are being swallowed by the cat. The classrooms, cloakroom, dining room, and kitchen are located inside the cat's belly, while the play areas for the children are in its paws. In addition, the building's second floor has large windows that act as the cat's eyes, and grass on the roof mimics the cat's fur. Lastly, there is a slide at the back of the building, allowing children to exit through the cat's tail, which makes it even more exciting. A purrfect enjoyment for the young kids.
