Giant Hand, Rezang-La War Memorial, Rewari, Haryana, India.


A memorial to the soldiers of 13 Battalion, Kumaon Regiment, of the Indian Army who lost their lives on November 18, 1962, at the Rezang-La Pass during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. Most of the 114 dead belonged to the Rewari area.

Giant Hands at Namo Ghat, Varanasi, India.


Three pairs of giant folded hands in the posture of Namaste, the Hindu way of greeting a person. Two hands, one 7.6 metres (25 feet) tall and the other 4.6 metres (15 feet) tall, are saluting the sun and the Ganga (Ganges). These hands were part of the renovation of the previously known Khidkiya ghat, which, after the installation of these giant hands (in 2022), is now known as Namo ghat. Namo is a Sanskrit synonym of Namaste.

Hand out of Water, Basilica Cistern, Istanbul, Turkey.


The 1,500-year-old Basilica Cistern is the largest and one of the most famous of the several hundred ancient cisterns that lie beneath the city of Istanbul, Turkey. After its restoration in 2022 a large grasping hand emerging from the water has been added to it. The climax scene of Dan Brown's thriller "Inferno" was filmed at this location.

A memorial to Holocaust victims stands on the site of the former synagogue of České Budějovice. The synagogue was demolished by the Nazis in 1942. This monument was unveiled in 1992.

Hand with Fingernails painted with Ukrainian Flag, Prague, Czech Republic.


A large victory sign hand sculpture featuring fingernails painted in the national colours of Ukraine was displayed in front of the Russian embassy in Prague, by artist Jan "Slove" Slovencik on August 24, 2022, Ukraine's Independence Day.

The Vyšehrad Cemetery has the remains of many renowned Czech artists and musicians. The graveyard of Vlasta Burian, a Czech actor, is adorned with a pair of hands.

Pipe Organ Shaped Like a Hand, Notre-Dame des Neiges, Alpe d’Huez, France.


A stunning pipe organ in the shape of a hand inside the Notre-Dame des Neiges (Our Lady of the Snow) church. Detlef Kleuker, a German organ builder, constructed the instrument, and Jean Marol, the church's architect, created its enclosure. The organ was completed in 1978.

Giant Fist Holding French Flagpole, Lille, France.


A sculpture Poing de (Fist of) César by the famous sculptor César Baldaccini, holds the flagpole of the Military High School, Place d'armes of the Lycée militaire de Saint-Cyr. Made of Polished stainless steel it was installed in 1970.

The Hand of César, Lille, France.


"La main de César," by sculptor César Baldaccini (aka César), is located on the ground floor of Porte de Valenciennes metro station. It is one the many giant hands designed by César.



It was installed in 1989, when the metro station designed by Bernard Poète, a friend of Cesar's, was commissioned.

Hand Holding Torch, Neuville-Saint-Vaast, France.


Monument du Flambeau (Torch Monument), in the shape of a hand holding a torch, is a monument to the destruction of the village of Neuville-Saint-Vaastand and the lives lost in liberating it from German hands. The village was the scene of fierce fighting during the First World War, and almost all the buildings in the village were destroyed during the war. The memorial erected in 1932 was designed by architect Charles Yrondy and sculptor M Rafour.

Hand Holding A Quill Pen, Surgères, France.


Located on the roundabout at the intersection of Rte de Rochefort (D911) with D911BIS, Surgères, it is a monument to the 16th-century French poet Pierre de Ronsard. The giant hand, holding a quill pen, is writing on parchment, on which a couple of the poet's famous lines are inscribed in French, which in English translates to: "Live, if you believe me, do not wait until tomorrow: Pick the roses of life today".



The sculpture was created by Jean-Luc Plé whose works of art are adorned on many roundabouts in France.

Giant Hand with Green Thumb, Mönkeberg, Germany.


Located at the intersection of Heikendorfer Weg and Am Grün, the sculpture is made of 1.6 metre thick oak trunk and is about 3.5 metres high. It is an art work by German artist Thomas Jaspert. The thumb was painted green due to its location at Am Grün (English: At the green).

Two giant hands holding conical pillars (horns?) at the entrance to Ozora Festival. The festival is one of the greatest psychedelic music gatherings in Europe.

A giant hand sculpture was installed recently at the pedestrian entrance to the car park opposite the Famine Village on the Isle of Doagh, Ballyliffin, Co. Donegal, Ireland. The passage through the hand leads to the most stunning viewpoints in Donegal. The sculpture was created by artist Danny O’Donnell.

Giant Hand Mural, Rome, Italy.


A mural by French artist Philippe Baudeloque. Created in 2015, the art work titled "Elisabetta" is named after a woman of the same building who provided her actual hand as a model for the sketch.



The mural is part of the uplifting and beautification of a once neglected area of Tor Marancia, Rome, and there is another large hand mural in the area based on Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam.

A mural by street artist Jerico. Created in 2015, it is inspired by Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam and is titled "Distanza Uomo Natura" (Man-Nature distance).

Saint Malo Memorial, Le Chemin de la Corbiere, Jersey.


The sculpture depicting two giant hands gripping each other at the wrist, as if one hand is supporting the other, is a thanksgiving memorial to those who saved all 307 passengers and crew members of the French catamaran "Saint-Malo" which was partially submerged after striking nearby rocks in the morning April 17th 1995.

Great War Christmas Truce Memorial, Alrewas, Staffordshire, England.


The Christmas truce was a widespread unofficial ceasefire around Christmas 1914 along the Western Front of the First World War. A century later, on December 12, 2014, a memorial was unveiled at the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas by Prince William. The memorial, titled "Football Remembers," consists of a large bronze casting of two hands (one English, one German) in a handshake set in a wire outline of a football. Its design was chosen from a UK-wide competition won by a ten-year-old schoolboy named Spencer Turner.

Giant Hand Holding a Woman and a Child, Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland.


Titled "Lifeline," the 8 metre (26-ft.) high sculpture located on Shillinghill Roundabout is by the artist Andy Scot. It was installed in April 2011. The giant hand is modelled after the gauntlet on Clackmannanshire’s coat of arms and pays tribute to all the emergency services personnel who risk their own lives to help others.

Hand holding A ship and an Apple, Port Glasgow, Scotland.


The sculpture "Future in Hand" shows a giant hand holding a ship with an apple as a passenger. The apple represents the era when Port Glasgow was an apple-growing area prior to shipbuilding. Unveiled in 2006, it is the collaborative work of Danish artist Nina Saunders and students from local secondary schools.

Ringo Star's Peace and Love Hand, Beverly Hills, CA, USA.


Ringo Starr, the former drummer for the Beatles, gifted to the city a huge, eight-foot-tall peace sign made of polished chrome steel. The 362 kg (800 pounds) sculpture, titled Peace and Love, is modelled after Ringo's own hand.



On the occasion of his 81st birthday (July 7, 2021), Ringo paid a personal visit to the location and posed for photos next to the sculpture while giving the peace sign. (hollywoodreporter.com)

Located in the vineyard at Clos Pegase Winery & Tasting Room, it is one of the several copies of the famous Le Pouce (The Thumb), sculpture representing the thumb of the sculptor César Baldaccini. It shows in details, even the fingerprints and skin details of the artist.

Hand Holding Grape, Napa, CA, USA.


Napa is known for its vineyards and wineries, and this sculpture of a hand holding a grape is titled "Hand of the Land". It was sculpted and installed in 2018 by artist Gordon Huether in front of his studio on Monticello Road. It is about 5.5 metres (18 ft.) tall and made of fibreglass and steel.

The sculpture, which is located on the Northwest Lawn of Lake Eola in Orlando, depicts a 12 meter (40 ft.) long reclining woman buried in the ground, with her face, hand, knee, and legs protruding above the surface. The sculpture, made of limestone, was installed in 2013 and is titled "Muse of Discovery." It is a creation of Meg White.



A similar sculpture by Meg White titled "The Awaking Muse" is at the Al Larson Prairie Centre for the Arts in Schaumburg, IL.

Giant Hand Holding a Fish, Roswell, GA, USA


Located in the Don White Memorial Park, the sculpture is titled 'Ask the Fish 2.0' and was inspired by references to fish in Job 12 of the New Testament. The sculpture is made of fibre glass and steel, and the fish is coated with holographic film, which gives it a shimmer and ever-changing colour depending on the time of day and the location of the viewer. The sculpture measures 4.25 metres (14 ft.) by 1.83 metres (6 ft.) by 1.5 metres (5 ft.).

Hands and Wrenches, Des Moines, IA, USA.


Installed in front of Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 33B on Bell Ave. are two big hands (of different people) holding massive wrenches. Entitled "Pulling Together," the 7.6 metre (25 ft.) sculpture is made of stainless steel and was created by local artist John Brommel.

The Awaking Muse, Schaumburg, IL, USA.


Installed on the grounds of the Al Larson Prairie Centre for the Arts in Schaumburg, the sculpture portrays a 12-meter (40ft.) long reclining woman buried in the ground, with her face, hand, knee, and leg protruding above the surface, evoking the image of a Greek muse awakening from a deep slumber. The sculpture installed in 2006 was crafted from Indiana limestone by sculptors Don Lawler and Meg White.



A similar sculpture by Meg White titled "Muse of Discovery" is at the Northwest Lawn, Lake Eola Northwest Lawn, Orlando, FL.

Hand with Butterfly, Stratford, OK, USA.


This hand with a butterfly sculpture is installed at Lunsford Welding. The steel sculpture is about 9.5 metres (31 ft.) tall and weighs about 1,800 kg (2 ton). Titled "In the Beginning," it was built in 1992 by a local artist, Kevin Tyler, with the help of welder Robby Lunsford .

"I Love You" Deaf Sign, Senate Street, Columbia, SC, USA


A large, 1.2 metres (4 ft.) tall hand in the shape of the "I love you" sign in American Sign Language with the thumb, fore, and little fingers extended.



The sculpture was put together by over 200 students from the local branch of the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind, who collaborated with artist Bob Doster to weld their handprints together to create the larger hand.

Winnowing Hands, Mount Pleasant, SC, USA.


This bronze sculpture called Winnowing Hands depicts a pair of giant hands holding a basket made of coiled sweetgrass. Before the advent of rice mills, such baskets were used to winnow the rice. The sculpture unveiled in May 2008 is located in a fountain at the Oakland Shopping Centre and was sculpted by California artist Shirley McWorter-Moss.

"I Love You" Deaf Sign, Morgan Square, Spartanburg, SC, USA.


A giant hand with the thumb, fore, and little fingers extended in the shape of the "I love you" sign of American Sign Language.



Students and staff from the local branch of the S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind assembled the sculpture. The students worked with a group of artists to overlay their handprint tracings onto the metal sculpture to create the larger hand.



Another such hand is on the corner of Senate and Lincoln Streets, Columbia, SC.

Hand Clutching Diploma, Galveston, TX, USA.


Hurricane Ike (September 13, 2008) caused very heavy damage to Galveston. Beside the loss of life and destruction of several properties, it had also uprooted and damaged many of the city's majestic oaks. As part of the city's rebuilding and re-beautification, several artists decided to create works of art from the ugly stumps. One of the stumps located on the grounds of Wright Cuney Recreation Center was converted by artist Earl Jones into a tall hand clutching a diploma.

Hands Monument to Wicker Artisan, Chimbarongo, O'Higgins, Chile.


Chimbarongo is the Wicker Capital of Chile, where hundreds of artisans weave the locally grown wicker into baskets, furniture, decorative pieces, etc.
