Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are natural light displays in the sky, usually observed at night, particularly in the North polar region. In the South polar region these are called Aurora Australis or the Southern Polar Lights.
Without going into technical details, the Aurorae are caused by electromagnetic energy particles which are drawn to the earth's poles, literally charging the atmosphere and causing it to glow. The intensity and frequency of Aurora Borealis is greatest in the proximity to the North Magnetic Pole and reportedly Yellowknife, Capital of the Northwest Territories of Canada is the best place to see these lights.
