A natural arch appropriately named as "Natural Arch" in the Tirumala hills in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India is
an amazingly balanced natural arch bridge - the only one of its kind in India.
In local language (Telegu) it is called Sila (stone) Thoranam (a garland strung between two points/columns.)
Formed due to natural erosive forces about 1600 million years ago (older than the Jurassic age), the arch measures 8 metres (26.2 ft) in width and 3 metres (9.8
ft) in height. Although not very big but it is a very rare geological phenomenon, where in two different
sets of rocks are connected together in the form of a thin link. In geological
term this is known as 'Eparchaean Unconformity' and was discovered in the 1980s, during
geological excavations in the Tirumala hills.
