La Casa di Libri (House of Books), a quaint little thematic house in the small village of Sant'Anna (population about 71) in the municipality of Tambre, Italy, is a book lover's dream come true.
The design of entire house and its interior including the furniture revolves around books. The walls look like stack of books, the roof is an open book lying face down, the gate is in the shape of pair of reading glasses, the gateposts are like cap of a pen, the fence looks like pencils and to top it the chimney is shaped like a fountain pen with cap removed.
These are not the only oddities in the house; almost all the inside decoration and furniture is themed around books. The wooden table, chairs, bed, book shelf etc. look like books. In addition to book themed items, the house also contains many other day to day items carved in wood. The clothes in the wardrobe, jacket, cap, curtain, table covers etc. all are made of wood. Even the books in the shelf are made of wood.
This amazing house and its interior including the furniture are creation of Italian artist, Livio De Marchi, who loves to work with wood.
Made in 1990, it is the first of the ten house that the artist plans to make around the world. His biography (download in MS Word format) mentions that a second "House of Books" was made in 1993 in Bergneustadt, Germany (between Frankfurt and Köln) for a private collection and third house was made in October 1994 at the Pension Costa del Sol on the peninsula of Izu, Japan in front of the Pacific Ocean.
I have yet to locate the two other "house of books" and couldn't get any information if some more were also built. I will keep on searching and request my readers to help me in finding other similar houses built by the artist.
