On a desolate stretch of US Interstate 40 near the small town of Yucca, Arizona, USA stands an unusual house in the form of Golf Ball - although some feel that it looks more like of a space station than a golf ball.
Built in 1976, originally it was known as 'The Dinesphere - Space Station Restaurant' and was part of a 1970s shady real-estate venture in which some unscrupulous developers bought up some desert land and sold plots to many innocent buyers promising a lush green city near Lake Havasu, which in reality was 60 km (~40 miles) away. Reportedly the developers vanished in couple of years and the company formed by them went bankrupt. Federal officials called the scheme the worst land swindle in history.
In any case the Golf Ball Structure survived but remained disused till 1981, when a Wyoming resident bought it as a birthday present for his wife. They renovated the 40 feet diameter structure, split the interior into three levels and created 3,400 square feet of living area.
Few Space related small structures like flying saucers etc. were also added around the golf ball and the structure was christened as "The Arizona Death Star".
It is understood that it now has a new owner, who has set up a small stall at the ground level selling UFO and alien-related products. It has been renamed "Area 66" due to it's proximity to Route 66.
It is a private property, though many travellers on the highway stop to take its snap. If any of my reader is visiting the area, my request is that the privacy of the owners be respected; however they can satisfy their curiosity by visiting the curios stall at ground level.
