A Monument to Enema

World's largest and the only monument to the enema is located on the campus of Mashuk Aqua-Therm (Машук Аква-Терм) Sanatorium, Inozemtsevo, Zheleznovodsk, Russia. Situated in the Caucasus Mountains region which is known for its mineral springs, water of of which is often used for colonic treatment.

The bronze monument which weighs 350 kg and is 1.5 metres high, depicts a giant pear-shaped bulb enema held on the shoulders of three little angels.

Unveiled on June 18, 2008, it was designed by Avakov Svetlana and Begalov David. Treatment and prevention of digestive diseases is one of the main activities of the sanatorium. "We administer enemas nearly every day," said Alexander Kharchenko, the head of the sanatorium. It was therefore decided to create World's first monument to this very well known medical device that is used throughout the World. It cost about a million Rouble and as per its designer Svetlana Avakova she drew inspiration from Botticelli's classic painting Venus and Mars to tackle the tricky subject.
