Grand Peterhof Palace aka "Peters Court" and also referred as "The Russian Versailles" is part of series of palaces and gardens in the town of Peterhof. Situated on the southern shore of the Gulf of Finland on the top of a cliff looking out upon the Baltic Sea, about 22 miles southwest of St. Petersburg it was the summer capital of Peter the Great and built in 1710 and rebuilt/renovated between 1747 and 1754. The Palace has many splendid paintings, decorative objects and furniture. It is surrounded by a series of fountains and gardens. It was badly damaged during the World War II. It has since been restored to its past glory and is now a museum.
Visited each year by millions of tourist the Peterhof complex is a World Heritage Site along with the town of St. Petersburg.
