International Bridge on the river Miño

This old international bridge was built in 1886 as a result of agreement in 1879 between Portugal and Spain to connect the cities of Valença do Minho (Portugal) and Tui (Spain). It a double decker bridge with rail tracks on upper deck and road on the lower deck. It has two outer spans of 63 metres each and three interior spans of 69 metres each.

Its metallic girder truss was based on the design of Eiffel and the steel pattern gives the bridge interior a beautiful view and has inspired many photographs.

The road bridge has since been replaced by a new bridge on the south but is still in use by slow moving traffic. Here is an image of the new bridge  (old bridge can also be seen in background).
