These beautiful looking blue/green lagoons amidst sand dunes are part of the Lençóis Maranhenses National Park lying just outside the Amazon basin in Brazil.
It is a classical desert area of about 1000 square kilometres. Surprisingly it receives regular and heavy rainfall from February to October every year. Being a low land it occasionally gets flooded but despite plentiful rain, there is hardly any vegetation in the area. The yearly rains result in the unusual phenomenon of collection of fresh water amidst the valleys between the sand dunes. The water gradually gets soaked/dries out within a short time after the end of rainy season.
