London Bridge has fallen down

London Bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down... is a very old and popular nursery rhyme.

This post is not about the famous London Bridge in London, but about its namesake natural bridge in Port Campbell National Park, Australia.

This natural bridge was formed by a continuous but slow erosion of land by the sea, and until 1990 it was a double-arch bridge leading up to the edge of the land mass. Because of its shape, it was known as the London Bridge.

On January 15, 1990, one arch collapsed, leaving two people stranded on the extreme end, who were later rescued by a helicopter. After the collapse of one arch, it is now known as London Arch and is a big tourist attraction along the Great Ocean Road near Port Campbell in Victoria.
